I'm interested in a very long range walkie-talkie... But it looks as thought the longest range supported is 25 miles. I know that in order to reach 60 miles mark, I will need either a strong amplifier or a repeater (which neither makes it a mobile any more)... So I was wondering if there are any 2-way devices that are capable of handling at least 30 miles?! maybe?! Thanks.

**FYI 25 miles mark can be easily achieved with Motorola T-9550XLR...

You may be interested in becoming an amateur radio operator if you're looking at communicating directly over those kinds of distances without using a commercial repeater system (cellular "push-to-talk" or similar)

You're talking about going beyond "line-of-sight" communications, and to do that legally generally means using technology that requires specific licensing by various governments.

You can try "boosting" some over the counter radios, but that is often illegal. Plus, once you're at beyond line-of-sight conditions certain frequencies just won't work reliably without using repeaters, satellites, moon-bounce, etc.

If it's for commercial operations, however, then amateur radio isn't suitable as it doesn't permit commercial use.

Each country has its own restrictions on commercial and amateur radio operations.

For more info on this, you can go to just about any one of many amateur radio websites. A place to start would be:

Thanks for the info John... =)
I guess I don't need it that much to go that crazy and playing with different frequencies, moon bounce, etc... I'll just stick to the 25mile one. Thanks again.
