Time to put the boards back up the Dow Jones is below 10,000

Shit, it's time for jersey barriers and electric fences - it just took a good run at 9.5k! With all the bad stats news due this week, we may be lucky to keep it over 9k :| Then again, maybe today is just pricing in those expectations...

looks like a second day of huge losses... 9K may end up looking high tomorrow if this trend holds.

I heard that someone was authorized to start buying up securities with the $700 billion. That's about all I heard. It is hard to tell how long it is going to take before credit thaws though...

Nikkei down 10% overnight, Singapore in official recession, Euro markets down 8-10%...this is getting seriously brutal. And to top it off, George W Bush is slated to speak on the subject tonight. Nothing like W speaking to make the markets tank recently...

I think closer to 5000. The sale offs are still happening every single day so I think its still a ways off. All the investors are running around with their pants at their ankles now. :X

Edit: Hmm... if there isn't a major sell off in the next 100 minutes, maybe the markets have hit the bottom. :~

As long as they don't bend over... oh, wait.

By the way, Canada is starting to feel the hits as well. Although, how could we not?

I don't think you could have any of the industrialized nations go into a recession without all the others at least feel something anymore.

It closed down but the day was nothing short of a roller coaster. If Monday is more stable and maybe a little bit on the up, credit may be thawing.

The TED spread is going to be a more reliable indicator of when the credit crisis is over - and (almost) undoubtedly, the markets will go up as the spread goes back down. However, today marked the record high spread, so I don't think we're out of the woods by a long shot. My guess is everyone is going to be pretty happy if 7000 is really the bottom. Unfortunately Ford's guess of 5000 is probably well within reach if rates don't start coming down.

Yeah, that's very much true. Additionally, a large chunk of our import/export comes and goes from the US. Not expecting to suffer some recession is just plain ignorance... although ignorance is bliss. :P
