I've been reading this on a lot of automotive sites the past few days and I think this would be a shame. I do like GM more than Chrysler and apparently if GM buys/merges with Chrysler they could possibly kill off all of the divisions except Jeep. I would really hate to see Dodge leave the market they make some great cars and it'd be terrible to see the Viper gone which is one of few American sports cars that rivals European/Japanese cars.

It's a sad day for domestic automobiles :'(

I really couldn't see them letting that happen. Ford wouldn't be able to compete.

Most any car made by a Chrysler, GM or Ford division is balls. Foreign automakers ftw.

They basically can't compete anyway. To add insult to injury, Tracinda (aka Kirk Kerkorian) just sold a big chunk of F shares, at a steep loss, and have stated they're considering selling the remaining ~130mm shares they own. Not exactly a vote of confidence.

Anyway, the sad part about this is that, GM and Ford (not willing to give Chrysler the same credit) are finally making some nice cars that can compete on both features and quality. But decades of inept management, short sighted unions, clunky assembly lines, and horrible cars are a heavy burden to bear.

I'd be shocked if any of the "Big 2.5" are recognizable as such in 10 years, and probably even sooner than that. Despite rampant car xenophobia here in the states, it's probably for the best. Survival of the fittest is, after all, the way of American business - a free market can be a very brutal market.

As of 2009 the Viper is no longer being made, it was my favorite car.

On the brightside, the new Corvette owns everything :o

The Viper is ugly and sucks.

Japan easily makes the best cars in the world. And the best car in manufacturing at the moment is the R35 GTR

Yeah the Viper was badass, it was just horsepower with a seat it was apparently hard to control.

The Corvette ZR1 is by far the best American super car to be made so far, it had one of the fastest Nurbergring times ever and its just pure awesomeness.

The sad thing is that there isnt going to be a Corvette C7 for a LONG time, they said 2014 at the earliest due to financial problems (obviously), but they are gonna do some slight updates to the C6 in a few years.

Yeah Viper is my favorite, but after seeing the 2009 Vet, I'm starting to think I can let the viper go. The body style on the vet is getting more rounded look, I'm not a fan of the "boxy" look of older Vets.

That car is THE car to get. It replaces the Viper well. RIP Viper!

indeed it is, i like the Lingenfelter Vettes the best.

One more gripe i have with the GTR is that most of those performance numbers they posted cant be achieved without using the Launch control which voids the warranty of the car if you use it.

I'm not sure if it's a good idea for two failing car companies to merge. Chrysler really doesn't have any interesting products at the moment besides the Challenger and does not seem to have any decent small/energy efficient/clean cars down the pipeline. GM has a few decent products out now such as the new Malibu, CTS, and Camaro and one "green" car that looks promising, the Volt. Sure both GM and Chrysler are making some awesome trucks, but sales are taking a nose dive and both companies need to figure out how to make a profit on small cars like Toyota and Honda do, and they need to do it fast. Neither company has a great reputation, especially GM, whose ownership of the widely hated Hummer brand and dependence on sales of full size trucks/SUV sales has hurt it's public image in recent years.

Cerberus is probably dying to get rid of Chrysler, which I doubt has helped the investment firm since it's acquisition of Chrysler from Daimler-Benz just a few short years ago. Cerberus already has a 51% stake in what was GM's financial sector.

The worst part of a GM-Chrysler merger would be the increase of badge engineering. I can just see it now, we'll have the same crossover SUV branded under 7 different nameplates.

Never been a huge fan of dodge- except for the viper. I thought that this was going until 2011 though?

Anyway, the zr1 will rape most supercars- period...

Not the best sport cars...leave that to the USA/Italy/France, etc..

The GTR is good, but not the best. It just has a lot of features that help control the car under certain circumstances. The ZR1 on the other hand demolishes it on the track...I wouldn't be surprised if the Z06 does too.
