I need to know how does a Athlon 64 6000 3.0Ghz compare with an AMD Phenom 9500 Quad Core 2.2 Ghz. I need a system thats gonna be good for gaming for a few years till I start working. Heh heh. So what should I do. Get a good graphics card with 6000 or phenom 9500. If it's the 6000 I can get it straight away. So im getting impatient waiting for cash to come to me.

i think you'd be better off getting a new Core 2 Duo and replacing your celeron with that. Should be far better than the AMD x2

a core 2 duo here, any E8--- in the UK, new, is two times more expensive than a 6000. And i have very limited money.

alright, i say spring for the 6000+ for now and upgrade to the phenom later on if you get a chance. Should be a lot better than the celeron

I feel for you mate trying to get a GAMING rig on a tight budget....but getting the C2D E8xxx series would be the best thing for a gaming rig...I would save for it. I mean Dual Cores are still better then QUADs for gaming apart from the odd one.

Up to you but a bit longer saving and you be alot better safe guarded for the future....if you can even do that in the PC world.

Sammy, I got those prices from teknet.co.uk
If you can get another 5-20, you can get a good CPU, but if you have to hold on a little longer, do, you won't regret it.

I have chosen this processor:

Intel Pentium Dual Core E5200 @ 2.5 Ghz 800 Mhz FSB
http://www.ebuyer.com/product/148715
It is good and someones overclocked it to 4.0ghz on air cooling so it seems perfect for me. Would it fare well for gaming and would my rig after this be able to support more hardcore gaming?

Yep, that will serve you very well, and it's a good budget CPU. Get a decent gfx card when you have the money and you'll have a very capable gaming platform.

I checked the Supported CPU list for your motherboard, and I didn't see it. Maybe you should verify it's compatability:

>> Re: Strapped for Cash
The mobi spec says it supports all CPU's on 775 except quad. The CPU's have probably not been added to the list yet. As it supports wolfdale core 2 duo's, there is really no reason it would not support the newer pentium's.

Really, thanks for all the input, this cpu has also been overclocked to 4 Ghz and stable with air cooling, i wont go that far but shows what low level cpus can do. thanks again.
