Just a little project I was working on. The computer that was brought to me was a HP Pavilion 7845 with a 180 watt power supply. After seeing that the power supply was fried I bought a new 250 watt power supply. After bringing it home I found out that it was not going to possibly fit so I did this take a look:

Any comments on it?

I'm next looking to do a lego case

I will seriously ban anyone who makes an "outside the box" joke.

However, that was a creative solution. What type of mount is that on what appears to be the front bottom? Looks like nylon mesh on top of a rubber flange of some type.

Hey, nice way to... THINK OUTSIDE THE BOX!!!

:P

Very nice solution indeed. It's a little ugly but you did the job pretty well. Now add some colors, put some little legs, rounded plastic eyes, one arm and you get yourself a Siamese PC.

Sorry please tell me the picture which your talking about. I only used eletrical tape on the bottom mount because I did put a screw in there not thinking but after seeing that the case wouldn't shut because of the screw that was hitting the very edge took it off and grabed the electrical tape out the garage and went at it. It's quite inventive I think :P

External PSU?? LOL, I almost did that for my SFF case, since no room in it for a regular PSU, and the tiny PSU is just up to no good. But I never did it, since it will just look too ugly to my taste. Nice job, though!

DSCF1479. There's a reflection from the PSU label on the tape that lightens it and I mistook it for the case showing thru mesh.

Hey Zach,

Very interesting mod there. I do a lot of case work and research myself. The only comment that I have for you is that the power supply actually is a big contributor in air circulation and heat removal inside the case. Unless there is something I am missing from the pictures, there is no exhaust so heat will build and stay inside the case.

The recommended type of airflow is that you have fans at the front sucking air in, and then you have fans on the back as exhaust, sucking the hot air out. This is part of the PSUs job. So what you may want to do is on the back, make sure you fill that fan slot in the middle, and if you can mod the case, add a rear exhaust fan where the PSU used to sit. I use three methods of exhaust, PCI Slot Cooler, rear fan, and dual fan PSU.

interesting mod. I have never seen anyone do this before. The side panel must be pretty strong to support the weight of the PSU.

It's a HP Computer from 1999 the case is made out of strong @$$ metal. The PSU was only $17.99 and it was purchased from Tiger direct. The computer isn't the greatest and it's running on WINDOWS ME. lol

BTW very active forum I really like it
