I was wathcing today all the posts where people magnifie new systems and are upgrading even newer and newer systems with more and more speed, bigger clocks, bigger space, larger memory and things like that, well I and many others thought that what is THE real purpose for your system, is it work that you do with your computer or gaming or what?

Feel free do tell and discuss.

Mine is to edit photos and videos, there you can never find system too fast, huh?

Thanks already for all your answers! :)

I consider my PC as a gaming platform. Of course I do other things like watch movies, listen to music, but who doesn't do that? I also use mine as a recording 'studio' so to speak for my music endeavors.

I do a little of this, a little of that, and alot of everything (HALO, BF2, CoD4, GRID, Office 2007, Music (listening/ripping), DVD stuff, Photo editing, emails, internet, HD TV viewing, etc ..... I try to get as much hardware (mainly for gaming) as I can for the amount of bucks I can afford at the time.... and then stay with it for as long as I can before the need to update again. For me... I was never an OC'r as I like my system to be stock in the name of longevity/reliability. Hence keeping my system for as long as I stand it. My system is the backbone of my household's e-world....

The sad part about getting a new system with that brand new speed...... is that one gets use to the speed and eventually its back to square one... heheheheh.... Just like all the OC'rs .... get that speed boost and next thing you know.... its old hat again and then off to the next upgrade.. LOL.....

Listening to/archiving my music, gaming, photo editing, intemet use. That last one covers a lot of things - I look for stuff I need on craigslist, I get maps/directions to people I need to meet off craigslist, probably 70% of my personal communications are via intarwebs, learn about whatever catches my fancy on Wiki, entertain myself with sites like Cracked and AVclub, talk on forums - lots of stuff. Whenever we have a power outage, it's not the gadgets I miss, it's being connected.

Gaming, a lot of encoding, music, DVD watching, dvd burning. I think that's it

For you guys who burn many dvd's, can you burn 2 or 3 dvd's at 16x or 20x speed simultaneously if you had let's say 3 dvd burners? Or does it still gets bottlenecked by the hard drive? I always wanted to do this but I only have one dvd burner.

The purpose of my computer system? To learn, entertain, communicate, work, and store information. ;) In another word, multi-purpose.

I haven't done 3 at a time, but my last rig (RIP), I had 2 burners and it would do DVD's at 16x on both at the same time just fine.

Starting a piracy distribution operation, are we?
