I dont no why but often when nVidia bring out new drivers... older games stop working.
it sucks cos in order to play this game i need to install older drivers, but then the newer games lag more and sometimes dont even work

Cant they just take in to consideration that some people still enjoy playing the good old classics every now and then? why must it be so difficult now..

Yeah I feel your pain but COD1...seriously......COD1. Wow, but that is often the case with nvidia. But TBH I would not update to the new drivers.

My whole outlook has changed towards drivers TBH. I treat them now like a BIOS update, dont upgrade them coz you want to. Only upgrade coz you HAVE to, as in if there is a serious problem or a particular game is not functioning. Not too long ago peeps would just update drivers and BIOS's because they were THERE. And there was nothing wrong with the actual driver they had.

I found that the 185.xx series driver is the best....and I was using it on my GTX295.

186.18 is the best driver to date methinks!
I have to agree about the driver issues with Plug. If you have a good working driver,
which gives no problems, it's not absolutely necessary to install latest cert/beta driver
unless you really REALLY have to. Since the release of DX10 GPU's way back in Nov 2007,
- let's say for arguments sake 100 have been released to date - about 10 (if you're lucky)
have been successful drivers with no issues. All the other drivers have been disastrous
with horrendous performance issues. On that note of DX10, that's been a f**kin disater
from start to finish!

It's nothing to do with that. Technically, any GPU Driver Release will or shouldn't have
any issues or complications with oldskool games. Maybe hearing how these new
Driver Releases are affecting anyone with a DX10 card. I'm assuming DX9's
(G70's and below) will have no problems with their Drivers at all.

....I'm back, but only as a part-timer... :)

I must try the 186.xx Tam, but they are prolly the same as they are quite close together. I wish I could zap back in time to the release of the 7800GTX or the 8800GTX UBER cards with flawless games to play them on....:/

Latest Beta release 195.39 addresses the buffer overrun issue for CoD1 if that's what you're experiencing.
