I hate it! It's shabby. Blocky details. 2D-ish with rubbish textures. Rough as hell looking.
It's the worst game engine I've seen to date. I thought the graphics on BFBC2 were crap,
and the Graphics for MoH are equally sh|t!

Really? I thought the engine was well done. It provides awesome destructible qualities to the game while adding some good eye candy. I agree though that the textures aren't as sharp as I would want but then again few games are. Imo this one is better than the UE3.

Admit it Tam! You, like everybody else want Crysis 2 to arrive so you can test your monster video cards and see if they live up to the task, I bet that's the main reason you bought such an unnecessary card lol. :P

Lol Meats :) I am playing MoH and it's just the same scenery as BC2. This Franchise
and BF Franchise is just crap now. Yawn. Can't wait for COD! Bring it on!

Having played BFBC2 and MW2 online, i'd say that BF batters several shades ofs**te out of MW2. As for the engine, as already said the textures are a bit naff but I love games with destructable environments, it adds so much to the gameplay.

Not played MoH, but I can't imagine its anything great.

The graphics in BFBC2 are not crap by any means, they are some of the best I have seen in an FPS. Have not played MOH yet but the reviews are so bad its not funny.

I am actually looking forward to COD at this stage....But the destuctable enviro's add a huge amount to a game.

Having thought about it, the Frostbite Engine seems to need a lot more processing power than whatever CoD is running on. Have had to force my aging E6600 to 3.0GHz to play at native.

What Card you got running it also....AFAIK BFBC2 is optimised for Quad Core ships so it stands to reason it would work a E6600 as good a chip as it is/was...... ;)

Yea ok the physics are great. But the graphics are naf. Take away the overdone HDR and
bloom, and motion blur et al and you're left with a shabby graphical chassis. Most of you
missed my point here. Forget the physics, because that is not what I was talking about.
I like the graphics on COD. They are sharp, and detailed. Think of it like this:-

DICE = Big blocks of low-res styled (but detailed) graphics

Infinity = Smaller more detailed sharper graphics.

Those 2 above mentioned companies are an example of my point.

What exaclty is it that you see in this engine that defines your point of the best graphics
you have ever seen? This game engine has a facade of lighting effects to add the edge
that you like.

Tam,

BFBC2 is a very well put together game. Yes if you start to strip away details you are always gonna find cracks. You cannot say to leave out this and leave out that and what have you got....?????

The men are done very well as are the vehicles, not to mention the actual HUD and guns....the animation for the most part is very fluid & combine that with the destructable enviroments and ACTUAL war tape sounds that you can enable in game and for me its the best BF game yet.....but with maps that are too small and predictable.

You sure you ain't got it backwards here? Lol I actually think this applies more to MW2 than anything else. Except the physics part of course.

Hands down, best graphics still belong to Crysis.

Now, I say the best lighting comes from Metro 2033. To me it felt like Jurassic PArk kind of lightning or a movie with creepy atmosphere.

Meats,

Not to open up the old chestnut but the actual gameplay in crysis sucked ass....it looked good. But everyone (Even with the best rig at the time) was so pre occupied trying to get the game working that is was a JOKE. And to this day still is a joke.....

I remember saying this at the time and got shot down BIG TIME from all the tech heads on here like Dubs Gunner saying it was made for the next generation of GPU's etc..

Here we are SEVERAL GPU generations later and it still does not optimise like it should.

very element of the GPU ya loon! No Meats I defo don't have it backwards. The graphics
really do suck in the FB engine. That's my opinion.

Lol Plug I don't know about you man but the ability to perform superhuman movements against an entire Korean Army in a setting where the battlefield is a playground isn't appealing to you then I don't know what is. Maybe the scripted gameplay of games like COD where all you can do is watch and stare and the experience is the same each time you play are more of your taste.

Also, I ran the game with a mix of very high, high, medium and low settings with an 8800gt and it was very playable for me, it didn't reach 60fps constantly like in other games but for a game as good looking as this I didn't care.

Interesting details:

Crysis Release date: November 13, 2007
Modern Warfare 2 release date: November 10, 2009
Bad Company 2 release date: June 30, 2010

And the best graphics goes to...

:P

OK, the pure graphical part of BFBC2 might not be as great as MW2, but this can be explained I feel by the more stuff going on in a standard MP map.

However, do the graphics matter? As said, I personally believe BC2 gameplay urinates all over MW2, so the graphics (which are pretty good in my eyes) aren't really an issue.

Lastly, I'm running it on a 4870. And yeah, I suspect the Dual-core is finally off to the scraphead.

Dave, re-read my rant on at the start of this thread please. My original post was a gripe
about the frostbite engine. I don't like it. Simple. I am not talking about game play nor
physics, and how the game blows buildings into oblivion. How you and others feel about
the game, that's no problem. I am merely stating my point about the visual quality.
For one, the AA never works on Frostbite. I can ramp it up to 32x and I still get jaggies.
Why do I have to install a 3rd party app to get the jaggies away? I do not like the textures.
The whole thing looks like it's 3D but in 2D. To be quite frank, I think the graphics from 2142
are much better. As for MW, well I could have picked Crysis or any other FPS for that
matter. I chose MW in order to avoid further gripes about Crysis. I think MW (IMHO)
graphics are superior to frostbite engine. Frostbite textures, attention to detail,
especially on close up are just awful and half-heartedly done. Again that's my preference.
Yet again, on here, the stereo-typical posts with arms & legs added to them end up
spiralling into other topics. I have MoH and BC2 and I just can't get interested in these
games. I am fed up with Cinematic intros by DICE and not having the ability to cut
these scenes when I choose to.

Tam,

As I said about the old chestnut means I am only stating it ONCE....I did not have a 6 page rant about the game....Meats the concept of the game was excellant but just executed arse ways. I had the best GPU on the market at the time and it just never felt right even if I was running it at 1920x1200....any ways back to topic.

I personally did not think that MW2 was a better game graphically then BC2...the men themselves maybe a little shaper but the enviroment is very bland and average, very cardboardy for my taste.

Tam, You cant say in one breath strip away effects and lightning etc and then say the graphics are bad...its the whole package or nothing. The Frostbite engine is good but does have flaws...and BTW you are spot on about the AA & AF not working in BFBC2 they are p**s poor.

But I would take the Frostbite engine in BC2 over MW2 engine any day.

Ditto. This is the key word for me to. A lot of things look and sounded "cardboardy" in both MW games,

Plug, the frostbite engine - as I said previously - is masked by a facade of bloom, hdr,
glows and whatever. Strip all that away, and you're left with ropey bad textured graphics.
That's all I said. There's tons of other games out there that still look better than frostbite
when the superficial HDR crap's manually removed. That's my point. 2142's better than
the frostbite engine. What my whole point of this thread is about the detail of the graphics.
Imagine low res graphics, enhanced with some fancy texturing. That's what I don't like about
this engine. I aint saying this game is better then this or that for eye candy. It just is lmao
