Hey Matt,

You will a huge difference if you upgrade to the 560 Ti.

Thanks for the link! Shall have a read on lunch!

I just popped the same question on facebook and a techy friend suggested this one instead for better specs and performance for about the same cost!

Any thoughts on this comparison? Ive never had ati before soo unsure whats the difference if any!

They're about equal depending on the game. I'd get whichever is cheapest. You have the potential to unlock the 6950 to a 6970 also.

I went from an 8800GTX to a 5850 no problem, just run DriverCleaner before you install the new drivers.

Yea the gtx required the 2 connecters too i think but my gts only needed one! So do i just plug in any 2 straight from the psu? Or should they be seperated in someway or do i need to buy something else?

I'm sure the MSI you listed is fine. Actually, it says right on the description:

Revision 1: Flashable to 6970

This would be an instant sell to me(hence why I have one ;)) The card does take two PCI-E cables to run. You'll need a fairly good power supply.

560ti is a great card, but thed HD6950 can be modded to HD6970.

Get the cheapest HD6950, Sapphire are usually the brand I go for in ATI cards, always reliable, usually the reference design (which is required for the flash iirc).

So go for that.

@Matt King
Though a little off subject.
Bc2 loves a fast cpu. I assume that since your current vcard is an 8800 that you have an older dual core.
If you OC your cpu, you should get better fps.

hi mate! i have a quad core, its the intel Q6600! dunno if its anygood or not ha! :D

i think ill upgrade my psu at the same time then and go with the Ati! soo it says it can be flashed to the higher end card spec, what does that mean and is it easy to do?

i have a P5N32-E Sli asus motherboard if that helps any of this! :) never updated the bios etc as im not too technical!

Just post your PSU specifications, you may not need to upgrade it at all. And yes the Q6600 is a very good cpu, you should overclock it to see a nice difference of fps in BFBC2.

In that case, don;t worry about flashing.

Your CPU is ok, if a little old. overclocking it will help a lot.

Saying that, get either the 560ti or hd6950, whichever suits your budget best.

But ensure you're using at least a 1920x1080 screen, or you'll be wasting a lot of graphics power.

Saying that, should still be STREETS ahead of your current card.

The 6970 is the bigger brother of the 6950. It performs roughly 15-20% better in all games. The 6950 can be unlocked into a 6970 and from what I've seen, very easily. Can't wait to do it, until then, no need.

sounds good! yea i may overclock the cpu, does that mean more cooling is needed? i only have the stock intel fan on it at the mo!

in regards to the power supply, i cant find the box it came in but its a Jeantech 500 or 550 watt supply. would that be anygood or shall i go better?

any info on the cpu thing would be cool too!

thanks :)

PSU should probably be OK, but if you could post up the model number to check I'd be happier. A bad PSU can make your life a misery.

Yeah, you'd need better cooling on the CPU if you were to overclock it - but being honest, I wouldn't be wasting the money on cooling a 4/5 year old CPU.

Get the new card, and go from there. Save up and get a new build based around your new card.

I had a(I believe faulty) 700w ThermalTake and it tanked when I put the new 6950 in. I have to upgrade to this beast of a Corsair in order for it to not crash.

With stock air cooling you should be okay to overclock from 2.4 ghz to 3.0. (i didn't even have to raise my voltage)
I found going over 3.0 ghz didn't give me any more improvement.
Run cpu z and see what "revision" you have. If you have the "GO" revision, that means that you can easily over clock it and it runs cooler then the other revision.
http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/cpu-z.html

A quick google search will give you multiple posts on how to do over clock this cpu.

Thanks for the advice on the processor! Ill check the revision this evening! Ive not overclocked anything before so hope its straight forward!

So its worth doing then? Will it give a noticable difference anywhere?

Thanks!
