How's this for perspective?

I bet we now use more computing power to design, manage, support infrastructure, and play a current PC game than all the combined computing power it took to execute a manned voyage to the moon back in the 60's.

It is true, no joke. a 1980's digital wristwatch probably had as much computing power.

http://www.behardware.com/articles/811-10/report-nvidia-geforc...x-570.html

This review shows a 5870 to be slightly faster (though some obvious CPU limitation going on)

http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/graphics/2011/03/24/nvidia-ge...b-review/6
Once again once you get to higher resolutions (starting at HD 19x10) the 6970 is faster.

http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/2011/09/16/his-hd-6970-iceq-t...b-review/5
same here (same site, but reviewing the opposing card).

Much of a muchness though really. I have a 6970 coming, and have had the 570, and tbh I'd go 6970.

Just imagine Armed Assault 2 spread across 3 monitors using Eyefinity....... ohhhhh uuuhhhh....

Personally the 6970 would be the route I would take myself if I were to be building a new system or gpu upgrade.

True, but then again, id be saving 40 euros since BF3 is included, plus i get the better cooling solution from the DCII heatsink..

at the moment i prefer nvidia, just because i have alot of nvidia gpu's at home, and should one break down, i dont have to do a reformat and everything since i can just pop in another nvidia card in my rigs..

what do u guys reckon are the OC capabilities from the ASUS cards? speaking from pure experience and not hardware reviews..

You like nvidia go with the Gtx 570.I've went the Ati/AMD route a few times and i always end up back with nvidia.I just don't like AMD cards. As far as overclocking goes I'd go with MSI's GTX570 Freezer edition I think its called

But seriously the 6970 looks pretty good. If you can get used to amd's drivers then I say give it a shot

Capt...

Something else you might consider. I noticed your memory was 1333MHz. You might give some thought to ramping that up to 1600 or even 1866 IF your motherboard AND CPU supports it.

On sale (sorry, I only have US prices) one can get 1.5volt DDR3-1600 2x4GB for as low as $35 (but, sales are more frequently now at about $40, $5/GB) and I once saw 1.5volt DDR3-1866 2x4GB as low as $50 (but the typical sale prices currently seem to be about $60, $7.50/GB). Faster RAM generally = faster video and you may be able to leverage the pricing of faster RAM with a lower performing GPU for better performance than if you just bought a higher performing much more expensive GPU. An added advantage would be your general system performance improves as well.
For more info on RAM pricing: http://www.hardwareanalysis.com/content/topic/77413
(again, sorry I've only been providing US sourcing/pricing. I realize EU prices are typically higher and sourcing can be more difficult)

1-2fps if even.

You would notice little or no difference at all, especially at the game settings and resolutions you'd be playing at - you could even be using DDR2 and see no difference.

Only in CPU limited situations would faster ram really have much (if any) effect. Even then you'd be talking a couple of FPS. Probably within a margin of error of a difference tbh.

If you're running out of dividers for a CPU overclock, faster ram could be a benefit for system stability and to further OC your CPU, but that would be my main reason to get faster ram.

ah oki..

btw, i was thinkin.. if i get the 570 now.. when is the next nvidia/ati series gonna launch? and how much performance difference will they have? i mean the 8800gts and fermi was huge difference..

...Ok, but i dont think i would get any fps increase in my games.. you must be one of the few people ive heard mention this, and im saying this because i've noticed everyone says that the difference between 1333mhz and 1600mhz is a very nominal performance increase..
Whats your take on this then? are we talking 10-15 fps increase or just 4-6fps? they tried a test here, which was a fart in space type of difference:
http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/phenom-ii-ddr3,2319-6.html

Admittedly when I was doing my comparisons it was maybe 1-1/2(?) years ago with a dual-core AMD and an HD4xxx something that I had access to for a few days.

From other comments above it would seem my system's video performance must have been very CPU/memory bound, as the difference on the 2 games I tried were about 10%+ gain by just changing the RAM speed....which I considered significant at the time. There has been a lot of optimization in the games (and Catalyst) for the newer high-end cards so I could see the system RAM making less of an impact now.

I do however find it difficult to believe that going down to DDR2 wouldn't make a meaningful difference.

If there's no meaningful difference, what's even the point of any gamer taking the risks and spending time needed to OC the system?

But, like I said, it was just something to consider for a given configuration. If with the new cards and software/drivers available, and system memory type and speed is no longer a factor in game-play performance, then my comment is out of the picture.

Because pushing your CPU can give a great increase in performance. To get the most out of your CPU, you may need ram that's capable of a higher clock. Te confusion here is that its the ram giving you the boost, when its not. Indirectly, it's allowing you to achieve a higher CPU clock, therefore increasing overall system performance.

Alright guys, so after many debates i decided for the gtx570 DC2 + Battlefield 3 Bundle.
Btw, we had a major opening on the 26th at 11:59 for the launch of BF3; a line spanning a whole block to the store, competitions on who could dress up the best as a BF3 soldier.. didnt buy it at that time though as the line was too long and i had work, so i came there the day after again... They also had members from dice sign the games (considering Dice is a swedish company residing in central stockholm where they made BF3 :D, it was pretty cool!

check out the pics and vids:
http://www.webhallen.com/spel/kampanjer/battlefield_3_nattoppet/
(the 2nd video from the top is a swedish made contribution from a Airsoft team here in stockholm, pretty well made actually!)

Sooo... my thoughts on the card?

I brought it home, biig box i thought! opened the box and BAM! what a huge card! i know they said it was huge, but i was still surprised over its size!
So i took out the 470 and put it in my Q9650 rig (yeeey, 2 kickass gaming pc's now! :D),
and brought out the ESD mat and proceeded to installing the card.. I love that there was a fully black anodized backplate on the card so you didnt have to worry about touching any circuits..

popped in the card, and closed up my case, which is the In win dragon slayer:
http://www.legitreviews.com/images/reviews/1399/in_win_dragon_...er_026.jpg
the card fit without a problem, and still had 3 inches of headroom from the front case fan.

since i had nvidia from before there was no need to reinstall drivers, and worked right off the bat.

Temperatures? Had Just Cause 2 running for 3 hours while i was doin the dishes and what not, the card never reached over 46c !! what a cool running card!
in windows desktop mode, the card was pulling 35c idle... and ooooooh my god, it felt so nice having a performing card that was so quiet! such a relief, that for a moment when the game was running i wasnt sure if the computer was still on when sitting in the room :P

On maxed out settings on just cause 2 i was never dipping under 59 fps at all..
There's still ARMA2 that i wanna check out tonight, which is gonna be a lot of fun, and then for some BF3 gaming! it will be interesting to see what OC ill be able to get out of it, but figured i'd let the thermal paste and all sink in for a bit before messing around with that.. Im hoping for an ok OC without voltage increases.. any tips on how to oc.. like 10mhz incremental increase and game for a while to test stability?

all in all, im very happy with this card, seems like a very solid performer at stock speeds even, and im amazed over how cool and quiet it is!

I can definetly recommend the ASUS GTX570 Direct CU II to anyone seeking a 570 card...
