Hi, I didn't know where exactly to post this, so I am doing it here if it's ok :)

Anywho, my friend wanted me to build her a rig that will run SC2 and that won't cost her too much. Her budget is about 500 to 600. Any suggestions on which board/cpu/graphics card?

Many thanks in advance!

Does she need everything?
Case, psu, memory,video card,mobo, roms,windows.

The best bang for the buck currently is an i5 2500k, 1155 socket mobo with Ddr3 memory.
Cpu $200
1155 $80-$240
Ddr3 8 gigs $40 (1600 speed)

Then its an AMD quad core rig she needs...

look it up on newegg, any of the faster -Quad core chips like 945/955/965...
-ddr3 ram
-hdd
-chassi
-dvd burner
-graphic card - either ati 6870/6950 or gtx 460/560 cards..
-motherboard (pretty much any will do)
-powersupply - Corsair CX make good quality psu's for budget builds

that should do it. AMD carry a mature lineup of motherboards, so any good reviews that people posted on newegg, go for it!

This can be tough to achieve on this budget.
Normally a $500-$600 budget for just the machine, minus windows, monitor kb/mouse.
Here is a rough sketch of what you need and rough pricing.

Average prices based on newegg.com
monitor $120 21-22"
case $50 Cheap
hdd $50 500 gb ($80-$100 for 1 or 2 tb)
cpu $100 (AMD Athlon II X4 640) (intel 2500k $220 but top of the line)
memory $40 (8 gigs if on sale)
mobo $50 (for amd) (intel 1155 $50+)
video card GTX 460 $130
psu $60 (600 watt)
windows $110+
kb/mouse $40 (cheap)
rom $25 (sata dvd burner)

So far the cheapest total here is $775. With the cheapest parts available.
That indicates that you will have to really cut back on the video card. A smaller psu like a 500 watt may save you $10-$15.

Cheap cheap 4gigs of ram will run you $25. Posted above is good quality 8 gigs for $40+.

I hate to even say this, but if someone is not looking for a good quality pc, spending at least $1,000 on getting everything proper on their first set up, who only does light gaming, they may want to look into getting a $300-$500 pc from Walmart... You will be getting a much older cpu with the cheapest parts known to man, but bundled together they are cheap.
Keep in mind that most of these bundled pc's are not very upgradable. They may not accept a new video card or even a new psu that will be needed to run the new video card.

What you need to do is look around for pricing on all of the components and see what is best for her. Like i say, this is easy to do in the price range until you add in window, monitor, mosue/kb.
