Server: windows 7; C shared with Everyone full access
Laptop: Windows 7;

Laptop and WinXP PC can ping Server;
Laptop can connect to Server through View workgroup Computers, mapping, etc.

If you're using WinXP Home, look into its LAN networking specified limitations.

WinXP Home has more restricted (by design) network capabilities than WinXP Pro.

I'm not saying that's the problem, but whatever you're trying to do may not be supported if you're using WinXP Home.

I agree with what john has suggested. And at the same time i am curious whether that XP OS is a Genuine version or not?
